AmaZink

AmaZink Live is back for its second season with even more township vibe and glam.  Get ready to be entertained with renditions of soulful South African classics, enthralled by the pulsating rhythms of the township and mesmerized by the hypnotic dance steps, all the while having have your taste buds tantalized by the “kazi” cuisine and all within a stone’s throw of picturesque Stellenbosch, at South Africa’s very first township theatre-restaurant – AmaZink Live!  At AmaZink Live your waiters are also the actors and audience participation insures for an unforgettable experience.

For the second season running AmaZink Live have teamed up with The Barnyard Theatre Production Company to bring to the stage a high quality, truly magical and proudly South African musical production.  Our story is set in the very township AmaZink Live Theatre is situated in, Khayamandi.

During our extraordinary successful maiden 2011/2012 season, the show weaved the dramatic true-life tale of the township, its inhabitants and the venue itself, which started out as an unlicensed tavern called, Patricia’s Tavern – after its manageress.  The tavern was finally saved from being demolished, issued a license, reopened and renamed AmaZink Live! The 2012/2012 season of AmaZink Live picks up from where the previous season ended and promises even more intrigue and drama between the tavern manager Miss Patricia Jones, owner Musa Mavundla and the narrator, Fix Marwana.  In true-African tradition the story is intermingled with song and dance – with audience participation an essential part of its offering.  The Barnyard Theatre Production Company has seamlessly intertwined some of South Africa’s most renowned and beloved artists’ songs in the storyline.

Audience participation is essential in this heart-stopping, toe-tapping and foot-stomping musical adventure, featuring amongst others the music of Mango Groove, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Miriam Makeba, Paul Simon, Margret Singana, Sipho Hotstix and Lady Smith Black Mambazo.  The audience are encouraged to jive and sing along to such local chart toppers as, Jabulani, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Special Star, Paradise Road, Bang a Drum, December African Rain, Scatterlings’ of Africa, and Impi.

With the upcoming season of AmaZink Live, we are also proud to launch the AmaZink Live Market.  The Market offers guests the opportunity to sample some kasi cuisine (traditional, tasty township favourites prepared from only the finest fresh ingredients), browse the Cause Foundation curio stalls offering original hand-made products crafted by the community, get your picture taken by our very own “walking-talking” photographer and enjoying various local refreshments from our fully licensed bar.  The market also offers exclusive AmaZink Live merchandise, which will allow you to take home a little kasi vibe.

AmaZink Live offers the perfect venue and experience for any year-end function, corporate event, tour group and individuals alike.  Exclusive shows can also be booked, while the weekly shows are performed on a Wednesday evening, Friday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.  A transport service is available to the venue from various destination in Stellenbosch and surround, which can also be booked online or through the booking line.
