
Black South Easter
Black South Easter is a collective of five like-minded musicians who play a soulful blend of progressive Afro-fusion. They describe their sound as incorporating elements of afro-soul, dubrock, dance and reggae, with influences ranging from Miriam Makeba, Radiohead, Tannanas, Busi Mhlongo and The Police.
Vocalist Nhoza Sitsholwana,24,is from King Williams town and started her career as a backing singer for Simphiwe Dana. Sitsholwana then moved to Cape Town where she played with various projects before teaming up with Dan Boshoff to form Black South Easter.
Guitarist Dan Boshoff-originally from Port Elizabeth, has created a fusion of Guitar styles that combines local flavours and world sounds.
Bass player Jimi Curve is another Port Elizabeth musician who studied music at NMMU before moving to Cape Town where he has played in many well-known and established projects over the past 10 years.
Drummer Jerry Mbowa originally hails from Maputo and is a veteran of the local music scene having played and toured with many bands over the past 20 years and supplies eclectic grooves to the band’s sound.
Violinist Carly Nauta is a young prodigy who tackles the music with a fresh melodic approach.
Black South Easter has just recorded a collection of songs under the title “New Spirals” The band takes its name from the cleansing winds that blow across the Cape and bring in the fresh air that revitalizes and uplifts and have been together for 18 months.
