Cape Town Funny Festival

The Cape Town Funny Festival, which runs at the Baxter Theatre from 10 June to 7 July, presents a selection of award-winning acts from around the world, together with some of the best local comics on the vibrant South African comedy scene.

The bill includes a host of international comedians, some new names and numerous local stalwarts of the industry. The Festival, now in its ninth year, has run at capacity since inception. Some 20 000 comedy lovers are expected to fill the thirty performances.

The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival has developed its own brand of comedy, which is strong in unique specialty acts, all of which are sought after on the global festival circuit.

These include;

  • Former lead clown of the Cirque du Soleil, Canadian Mooky Cornish brings her award-winning routine to Cape Town

  • The UK’s top comedy juggler, Steve Rawlings, balances, juggles and plays with fire, all at lightning speed

  • Spanish” crooner Wilfredo, makes Julio Iglesias look ordinary and brings his romantic charm to Cape Town

  • Super star and comedy pianist Kev Orkian is no stranger to Cape Town, Kev Orkian returns to entertain with his comic routines.

  • Somalia-born stand-up, Prince Abdi, is the rage in London at present and comes to Cape Town to set Funny Festival stage on fire. His Bollywood routines are legendary and “the Prince” is certain to be the rage of the Funny Festival.

  • Marc Lottering will entertain for the entire Festival together with local up and coming comic, film star and actor Siv Ngesi. The show is held together by regular host and the country’s leading comedy MC, Alan Committie.

Include a couple of skits, audience participation and a creative set and you have the best Comedy Festival in the country.

Tickets cost R150 each and are available through Computicket. There are generous discounts for groups. The line-up is subject to change without prior notice.

Comic profiles

Alan Committie – (SA) – actor, comic, director, producer and the country’s leading master of ceremonies is back

Wilfredo – (UK) – Granada’s Julio Inglesias with his own sexy songs, as only he can sing them

Steve Rawlings – (UK) – juggling, balance and comedy at 3 000 miles per hour, makes Steve the UK’s leading visual comedian

Siv Ngesi – (SA) – actor, comic, nice guy with a very South African brand of comedy

Kev Orkian – (UK) – rated as one of the world’s finest comedy pianists who has fallen in love with Cape Town!

Mooky Cornish – (Canada) – former lead clown of Cirque du Soleil brings her very own brand of comedy to Cape Town

Carl Wastie – (SA) – a larger than life personality and huge courage, makes Carl a fantastic addition to the Festival

Prince Abdi – (Somalia)- versatile story telling has made Prince a real feel-good comic. Watch this star shine

Marc Lottering – (SA) – Mr Cape Town, Mr Likable, Mr Funny, Mr Hair – call him what you want, he is the country’s best!
