Origami Cranes
You will need:
- Red and white paper,
- Scissors,
- Ruler and
- Pencil
Step-by-step instructions:
- Cut a sheet of paper into a 15 x 15cm square and place on a flat surface.
- Take one corner to meet the diagonally opposite corner and fold and unfold. Repeat with the other two corners.
- Fold the opposite sides in both directions, unfolding each time. You will now be left with a square with eight fold lines.
- Fold the square in half.
- Bend fold 3 forward to meet up with fold 5 and repeat with fold 7 to meet with fold 5.
- You will now be left with a shape that resembles a small diamond. TIP Before starting on step 8 make sure the open end of the diamond shape is pointing downwards.
- Fold the side corners inwards to meet the line in the middle. Fold the top corner downwards to create a fold line. Open all the folds in this step, turn the shape around and repeat on other side.
- Grab the bottom corner and pull upwards. This should be easy as you have already created the fold lines.
- Turn the object around and repeat. You should now be left with two loose ‘legs’ on the bottom.
- Inside reverse fold the bottom points, taking the right point upwards to create the neck and the left point sideways to form the tail.
- Inside reverse fold the tip of the neck to form the head.
- Fold the front wing down and repeat with the other wing.
- Your crane is complete! Fold more cranes, as necessary. Slip your guests’ names, printed on strips of white paper, into the wings of the cranes.
