
Local is Lekker Bread Challenge
Ingredients:
Basic Beer Bread dough:
500g Sasko self-raising flour
1/2 tsp salt
340ml beer
Water
Method:
1. Pre - heat the oven to 180C. Grease a small loaf tin.
2. Mix flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir in the beer and add a little water if the dough is to dry.
3. Transfer the dough to the loaf tin and bake for about 90 minutes.
4. Test with a skewer after about one hour when the top is golden brown - if the skewer comes out clean, remove from the oven and cool slightly before serving with butter.
For Chakalaka flavor:
Add one ½ tin of chakalaka to the bread dough mix before placing it into the bread tin. Top with 50g grated cheddar cheese before baking.
For Bobotie flavor:
Mix ½ cup raisins, 2 Tbs curry powder, 1/2t turmeric, 1 cup chutney into the bread dough before placing into the bread tin and baking.
