Whether you want to escape the city or paint the town red, there are plenty of opportunities to join in a marvelous March festival - here are some of our top picks...

Over fourty of South Africa’s music masters will perform songs from the past 30 years at this year’s Festival of Legends on the 23rd of March in Johannesburg. Go back in time with these musical greats!

The Rise and Shine festival will be held at Sandton Central Park on 9th March. This eco-friendly acoustic festival will see a host of local music talents take to the stage and a tree will be planted for every 50 people who attend.

KwaZulu Natal take note - SA's longest running annual music fest is set to make this an Easter Weekend to remember. Splashy Fen starts on the 28th of March!

While book worms in the Western Cape can head over to the University of Stellenbosch's Woordfees that is in full swing till the 10th. Don't miss out on a jam-packed programme!

For wine lovers in the Paarl region, the annual “Round the Rock” festival is back on 9th March. 17 vineyards will showcase their delicious products for a great vine-to-wine experience!

Then, the fourth annual Cape Town Carnival rolls into town on the 16th March. From flamboyant floats to crazy costumes, this street party is a vibrant mix of culture and entertainment!

Oudshoorn is the place to be for the KKNK which starts on the 29th  March. It is one of the most celebrated arts festivals in the country combining dance, literature and theatre.

Another hightlight this month is the Karoo Food Festival on the 21st  of March in Cradock. The region is famous for its lamb and the event promotes great local produce!

If you want to get off the beaten track: Hopefield  - a hundred and twenty kilometers outside of Cape Town - is hosting the first ever 'Spore oppie Sand'  fest from the 9th of March. Expect lots of music and delicious homemade goodies! That's the new 'Spore oppie die Sand' in Hopefield.

Our pick of the month, is none other than rocking Ramfest! The festival is back and bigger than ever!

This mosh pit mecca is touring the country! For Cape Tonians, the four-day festivities will be held this weekend from 7-9 March. Jo-burg rockers be sure to head down to Riversands Farm for the festival on the 15th and 16th of March. Durban and Port Elizabeth will also be in the mix on the 15th of March.

International bands Rise Against and Bring the Horizon are headlining the festival, with Pendulum returning to Ramfest after their successful appearance in 2010.
