Pretzel Frankfurter Rolls
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- Oil
- 2 3/4 cups bread flour
- 1 Tbs sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 6 cups water
- 1/3 cup bicarbonate of soda
- 1 packet Enterprise Frankfurters
- Mustard, for serving
- Sour cream and chives dip, for serving
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 220C.
- Mix the warm water, yeast, a drizzle of oil, flour, sugar and salt together and mix to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
- Form the dough into a ball, place in an oiled mixing bowl, covered and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about ½ hour).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove all the air and divide into 8 pieces. Form each piece into a long sausage and wrap around the Frankfurters.
- Meanwhile bring the water to a boil and add the bicarbonate of soda.
- Boil 2-3 pretzel sausages for 2 minutes per side, remove with a slotted spoon, drain and place on a lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt and bake until golden brown for 10-12 minutes.
- Serve with mustard and sour cream and chives dip.
