Reflexology
The whole philosophy of Therapeutic Reflexology is based on both an ancient and more modern understanding of energy systems within the human body. Much in the same way as a acupuncturist views various disorders as being caused by blockages or imbalances within the energy system of the organism the Therapeutic Reflexologist takes the same view, and in many ways a similar approach to treating the problem, without needles of course. By releasing the blockages or correcting the imbalances Therapeutic Reflexologist's have come to see and experience how both the patients health and state of mind improves quite rapidly in most cases!
What is Reflexology?
Therapeutic Reflexology also known as clinical Reflexology is a health treatment that works on the principle that there are reflex areas / pressure points which are found on the feet and hands as well other areas of the body that correspond to the various parts of the human body, and that by applying a distinct pressure to the area using the fingers and thumbs Reflexology aims to stimulate bodies own innate healing ability, improves blood circulation and nerve impulses as well as relieve stress, tension and anxiety.
Is Reflexology considered a complementary or alternative therapy, what is the difference?
Firstly a clear distinction needs to be made between what we consider to be alternative medicine, and what we consider to be a complementary therapy. Alternative medicine is usually used instead of western medicine or so called medical science such as the person suffering with allergies whom after a consultation with their medical doctor decides that instead of taking the usually prescribed anti-histamines that they would rather consult with a homeopathic doctor, and use homeopathic remedies as an alternative to actually taking the anti-histamine. A complementary therapy on the other hand is never used to replace such medical treatment but rather as an adjunct, a extra tool to enhance the current medical treatment the person is undergoing. A complementary therapy can however be used as a stand alone treatment in certain cases, or if the patient wishes it so.
What conditions do you treat?
So many to mention, but Therapeutic Reflexology may be of great assistance in the treatment of infertility in both genders, and this testifies to the tremendous balancing effect of the treatment on the hormonal system. Very often I have seen that some of my patients lose weight without dieting or exercise, especially if some kind of underlying hormonal imbalance has been corrected. Auto immune disorders such as Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis may also benefit from Therapeutic Reflexology treatment. ADD/ADHD in both adults and children have shown improvement in some cases. The side effects of Radio and Chemotherapy have also been known to shown to improve in so many cases. In my experience a very common complaint would be that of hip/knee pain as well as a variety of other degenerative conditions.
