Rising Star: Jane Kotze

Born and raised in Stellenbosch this quirky 31 year-old fashionista caught the media's attention with her award winning designs that are bounding from her sketchbooks towards the catwalk. And having completed diplomas in both Fashion and Interior Design she's fast becoming a fashion force to be reckoned with. Don't believe us? Just ask Elle. With a firm belief that fashion is a tool used to express who we are, Jane Elizabeth Kotze did just that and used her name as the branding tool for her label Jane & Elizabeth. But this Cindarella didn't have a fairy godmother to swish a wand and make her dreams come true. Jane was all about hard work, determination and following her passion. (Which proved to be somewhat of a challenge because she couldn't sew very well). But after doing some window design work and au pairing in the UK for a year in her mid twenties she made a decision that would change her life for the better – she returned home and enrolled in fashion college at the age of 27 (Proof that a maturing age doesn't mean you missed the boat) and has certainly come a long way from her first ever designs that saw her barbie dolls clothed in nomadic attire. With her personal eclectic and relaxed style and panache for design, she ensures her collections are always creative and diverse. And as an avid bookworm she draws her inspiration from books, films, nature and the interesting world around her, which always results in unique garments, with divine attention to detail. Her favourite bits and pieces? Upholstery fabrics in vintage colours, rainbow shades and off beat patterns. Want to follow in her very high-heeled steps? Then follow your heart, she promises it knows the way.
