Sureshnie Rider
5FM’s Sureshnie Rider is one of the incredible women making a a difference in the many lives she touches. With the R100 000 investment MTN sponsored, Sureshnie as a Y’ello Rose Ambassador is working with women and children of Kwa Thema, where she’s already involved in the Agang Sechaba Women Initiative.
Part of her plan is the setting up of a soup kitchen for those in child-headed households. She also plans to send 150 children to school—something they would not have been able to do as they were not able to pay their own school fees. Furthermore, her plan involves training sessions by expert seamstresses to get the local women skilled in the use of sewing machines. This will enable them to earn a household income.
Sureshnie has a soft spot for children, and those in the paediatric wards of 75 hospitals will not have to fall asleep alone and scared any longer. She plans to record a CD with home grown stories that should lull them peacefully to sleep at night while they’re admitted.
Sureshnie is a can-do girl who believes obstacles can be overcome against the odds, and MTN feels privileged to have her on board. If more South Africans were prepared to roll up their sleeves and get involved, the world would be a better place!
Expresso and MTN are encouraging you - as part of Women's Day and Women's Month - to be a Yello Rose yourself. Get involved with your communities and make a difference. And if you know of a woman who you think represents a Yello Rose, tell us about it.
