Traditional Chakalaka

Serves 4

Ingredients: 

  • Cooking oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Hinds ground ginger
  • 2 tsp Pakco Roasted Masala
  • ¼ cup Pakco mixed vegetable pickle
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 150ml water
  • 1 tin Tomango baked beans
  • Salt and pepper

 Method:

  1. Sauté the onion, green pepper, garlic and chillies in a pot over medium heat until golden brown.
  2. Add the spices and stir gently.
  3. Add the grated carrot and Pakco pickle then stir to coat in the spices.
  4. Stir in the 150 ml water and the baked beans then allow to cook gently for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Season to taste then serve as a delicious accompaniment to any braai.
