Vienna Stokbrood With Tomato Smoor

Makes 4

Ingredients: 

  • 500g  Sasko self-raising flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 340ml can of beer
  • 50ml water
  • 1 Tbs chopped thyme
  • 1 packet Enterprise viennas
  • Sesame seeds, for sprinkling

 Method:

  1. Place the flour in a bowl and mix in the salt.
  2. Stir in the beer, water and thyme to form a stiff dough.
  3. Break off into pieces and roll into long sausages.
  4. Place the Enterprise viennas on long metal skewers and wrap a long sausage of dough around each Vienna. Brush with a little water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Hold the sticks over the open fire and bake until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve with tomato smoor.
  7. To make your own smoor: sauté 1 finely chopped onion with a crushed garlic clove in oil until soft. Add 2 tins chopped tomatoes and a tsp of dried oregano, Season to taste.
