Black Percelain

Black Porcelain

Black Porcelain is an artist overflowing with passion. Her first EP, Green, is five-tracks brimming with magic, the kind of magic that could only be created right here, in South Africa, by an artist who is as passionate about life as she is about singing.

She is a talented musician who has no musical boundries, “Music was not meant to be boxed, it's one amazing melting pot of emotion and creativity,” .

She is based in Cape Town but is going to take her music to world.

Born and raised in Soweto, Black Porcelain always wanted to sing, but abandoned the idea in favour of ‘sensible’ pursuits for a year or two. As such, Green has been a long time coming. Now that it’s finished, she describes it as “the most liberating thing I’ve ever done.”

Not one to sit around waiting for other people to turn her dreams into reality, Black Porcelain funded the project herself, and has chosen a primarily digital release. “I’m very hands on,” she says, “so the process was extremely satisfying. The EP is called Green because that’s exactly how I feel. Green also symbolises a new beginning and a fresh start, “I'm the new kid on the block- a fresh face joining the music industry.”

Black Porcelain (whose real name is Carol Mashigo has a wide range of influences, from Aerosmith to Mos Def, Billie Holiday to Nina Simone, the Beatles to Stimela. “Music was not meant to be boxed, it's one amazing melting pot of emotion and creativity,” she says. This incredible mix of influences is another part of what makes Green so magic.

Who is Black Porcelain?

“Who is Black Porcelain” That is the question most people ask when they find out that Cape Town based singer songwriter’s is on the playlists of radio stations in 36 countries. This is no small feat and she did it without a massive label ‘marketing machine’ behind her.  The Soweto born singer has 2 EPs under her belt and is completing her debut album ‘Invincible Summer’.

‘Today is the day’ is the first single off Black Porcelain’s upcoming album. This ‘break up’ song is already play-listed in New Zealand, England, Croatia, The Philippines, Japan and The Netherlands.  Black Porcelain describes her music as ‘music she loves’, while BPM has aptly described it as ‘future soul’. Whatever you choose to call Black Porcelain’s sound, there is no denying her talent and ambition. It is her ambitions that saw her get onto the cover of German/English magazine Feels SA, open for (International dub poet) Linton Kwezi Johnson and have one of her songs featured on a TV special.

Already play-listed in 15 countries: Today is the day is, no doubt,  going to see Black Porcelain move from being a favourite for lovers of ‘underground’ and catapult her to mainstream success.
