Preparation time: 15-20 minutes
Cooking time: 25-30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 – 3 medium apples (preferably red in colour)
- 1 sheet of short crust or puff pastry
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp cinnamon sugar
- 1 Tbsp melted butter
How To Make 5 Ingredient Apple Roses
- Slice the apples thinly (about 2 cm). Remove the core and place the apples in lemon water to prevent oxidization.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into strips, about 2 cm wide. Brush each strip with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top. Lay the softened apple slices along the top edge of each puff pastry strip, slightly overlapping them
- Fold the bottom of the pastry strip up so that the apples are slightly encased in the pastry. Roll the strip carefully into a rose shape. Place the rose-shaped pastries in a muffin tin to help them hold their shape while baking. Bake at 175°c for about 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy. After baking, you can dust with a little more cinnamon sugar for extra sweetness and sparkle.
Chefs Tip:
- Slice the apples as thinly as possible to ensure they roll easily and soften while baking. A mandoline slicer works best for even slices.
- If the apple slices are too firm, microwave them in lemon water for 30-60 seconds to make them more pliable and easier to roll.
- Puff pastry gives a light, flaky texture, while shortcrust pastry results in a firmer, cookie-like base. Choose based on your preference.
