Boerewors Pizza
A delicious South African twist!
Ingredients:
- 250g boerewors
- 1 large pizza base
- 1/2 cup passata
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- 1 Tbsp olive oil (for drizzling)
- Fresh coriander or basil (optional garnish)
- 1 tsp crushed garlic (optional for extra flavor)
- Chilli flakes, optional
How To Make A Boerewors Pizza
Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the boerewors for about 10 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and cooked through. Once done, slice the boerewors into bite-sized pieces and set aside. Preheat your oven to 220°C. If you’re using a pizza oven, preheat according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Roll out the pizza dough or use a store-bought base. Spread the tomato pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the base. Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Arrange the sliced boerewors evenly over the pizza. Add the red onion, green pepper, and cherry tomatoes. Sprinkle the dried oregano over the toppings. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle crushed garlic and chilli flakes for an added kick. Place the assembled pizza in the oven and bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the crust is golden brown. Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven. Garnish with fresh coriander or basil leaves.
