Elevate Your Store-Bought Cake
A quick go to for your festive desserts!
Ingredients:
- 1 store-bought cake – preferably vanilla or baked cheesecake
- 1 ½ cups pre-made buttercream or creamcheese frosting
- Fresh rosemary sprigs
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup white sugar (plus extra for dusting)
- Oranges, lemons, or limes (thinly sliced)
- Baking paper
- Optional: a sprinkle of sugar for extra shine
How To Make Elevate Your Store-Bought Cake
Candied Rosemary Hack:
- Make a simple syrup: In a small saucepan, heat equal parts sugar and water until the sugar dissolves.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Dip the rosemary: Dip each rosemary sprig into the syrup, shaking off any excess.
- Coat with sugar: Sprinkle or roll the syrup-coated sprigs in extra sugar until evenly covered.
- Dry: Lay on baking paper or a wire rack for 30–45 minutes until crisp and frosty.
- Hack: If you’re in a hurry, pop them into the fridge for 10–15 minutes — the cold air helps the sugar set faster!
Dehydrated Citrus Hack Slice thinly:
- Cut your citrus into thin, even rounds — about 3mm thick.
- Lay & bake: Arrange on a lined baking tray and bake at 90–100°C (low and slow) for 2–3 hours, turning halfway, until dry and lightly golden.
- Cool & store: Let them cool completely before storing in an airtight jar.
- Hacks: Speed it up: Use an air fryer or dehydrator at 80–90°C for about 1 hour — faster, same beautiful result.
- Flavour twist: Brush slices with a little honey or maple syrup before drying for a glossy, caramelised look.
- Decor idea: Arrange a few dehydrated orange slices with candied rosemary and raspberries on top of your cheesecake for a festive wreath effect.
