Soft Pretzel Bites with Clover Classic Custard

An easy beginners recipe to make your own pretzels at home!

Serves: 4-5
Time: 2530 minutes

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups lukewarm water
2 tsp dry yeast
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp butter, melted
3 ½ cups flour
Cinnamon sugar for dusting
Clover Classic Custard for serving

For the baking soda bath
½ cup bicarb
2 litre water

Method:

Mix together the warm water, yeast and sugar and allow to sit for a few minutes until foamy.
To a large bowl, add the flour, melted butter and salt, then pour in the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough starts to form. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead the dough for a few minutes. Cover with a cloth and allow to rest for 10-30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 200C. Break off pieces of the dough and roll into a rope. Cut off 3-4 cm pieces to make bites.

Mix water and bicarb in a large pot and bring to boil. Place pretzel bites into the water for 10-15 seconds and remove with a slotted spoon. Roll into cinnamon sugar and place onto greased and lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and serve with Clover Classic Custard.
