How To Make Umleqwa

  1. Heat canola oil in a heavy-based saucepan or pot over a medium heat and add diced onion. Saute until onions have softened and slightly browned.
  2. Add garlic powder, curry powder and mixed herbs, stirring frequently to avoid spices sticking to the pan.
  3. Add the portioned Umleqwa, with all the broth in the package, to the pot and stir through.
  4. Lower the heat and cover the pot for 5 minutes.
  5. Add 250ml chicken stock and stir through. Add black pepper, cover pot and cook for 20 minutes or until Umleqwa is tender.
  6. If gravy is still runny, increase heat and reduce until gravy is slightly thicker.
  7. Serve with steamed bread, samp& beans or pap.
