
Anatolian Bread Rolls

Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water (about 43°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
How To Make Rolls
- Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. - Mix the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
Mix until a dough forms. - Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size. - Shape the Rolls:
After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 8-10 equal pieces.
Shape each piece into a round roll and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. - Second Rise:
Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes. - Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 190°C - Prepare for Baking:
Optional: beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the rolls for a golden finish. - Bake:
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. - To Serve:
Serve warm with a drizzle of olive oil and a pat of butter.
