Breakfast Braai Broodtjies

A comforting twist on a South African favourite!

Preparation time: 15 – 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices sourdough bread
  • 2 Tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 cup spring onion & chives flavoured cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup Jalapeño flavoured chutney
  • 1 large red onion, cut into rings
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 300g streaky bacon cooked
  • 3 fried eggs
  • 3 slices of cheddar cheese or grated cheese

How To Make Breakfast Braai Broodtjies

  1. Butter each slice of bread, then spread each slice with a generous amount of cream cheese and chutney, top with onion, tomato, egg, bacon and cheese.
  2. Top each slice with the remaining bread a cook over a braai grid for 5 minutes, turning halfway through until the bread is toasted and cheese has melted.
