How To Make Campfire Apple Crumble
- Prepare your campfire and let it burn down until you have a steady bed of hot coals.
- In a bowl, toss the apple slices with the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, cornflour, and salt.
- Set aside.
- In another bowl, mix oats, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Rub the butter into the dry mix using your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Layer the apple mixture in a cast iron skillet, foil tray, or heavy-duty foil pouch.
- Spread the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Cover with foil (or a lid if using a skillet) and place over indirect heat on the coals.
- You can also place a few coals on top if using a Dutch oven or foil-covered pan.
- Cook for 25–30 minutes, or until apples are soft and the topping is golden and crisp.
- Carefully remove from the fire and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
