Butter Chicken
Nothing beats this classic dish!

Serves: 4 – 6
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- For the marinade:
- 5 skinless chicken breasts, cubed
- 2 tsp garlic & ginger paste
- 1 cup double thick plain yoghurt
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp turmeric
- ½ Tbsp lemon juice
- Salt & pepper to taste
- For the butter chicken:
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 Tbsp butter chicken spice or paste
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp coriander
- 1 Tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tomatoes, blended
- 1 Tbsp sugar, optional
- handful fresh coriander, chopped
- To serve:
- roti or basmati rice
How To Make Butter Chicken
- Start by marinating your chicken, In a large bowl add in chicken, garlic and ginger paste along with plain yoghurt, spices.
- Mix until well combined, squeeze in lemon juice and season with salt & pepper.
- Cover with plastic wrap and marinate for about 1 hour.
- Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in a pan, then add in marinated chicken and cook for 8 – 10 minutes, remove chicken from the pan.
- To the same pan add in onions, cook until translucent then add in the rest of the spices, tomato paste and blended tomatoes, cook until thickened, then pour in cream and allow it to cook for another 5 minutes, lastly add in chicken and coriander and cook further for 10 minutes on low heat.
- Serve with basmati rice or roti and enjoy!
There’s no cream mentioned in the ingredients …. method says “add cream” ????
