Cape Malay Lamb Curry

Spice up your weekend with this delicious Cape Malay lamb curry!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp canola oil
  • 3 onions, peeled and chopped
  • 3 bay leaves or curry leaves
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Thumbsize fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 kg lamb pieces
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 2 Tbsp roasted masala
  • 1 Tbsp leaf masala
  • 1 Tbsp curry powder of your choice
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 6 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

To serve: 

  • Basmati rice or roti’s
  • Fresh coriander

How To Make Cape Malay Lamb Curry

  1. Heat oil in a large pot then add in onions and cook until the onions are translucent, then add in garlic, ginger and whole spices and cook on a medium heat until fragrant. Add in the lamb pieces along with the rest of the spices, allow this to cook for about 5 minutes, then add in 2 cups of water, stir and allow it to cook for about 30 – 40 minutes over a medium heat, then season to taste with salt & pepper, now add in your potatoes and cook until the potatoes are tender, season to taste with salt & pepper. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with basmati rice or roti. Enjoy!
