Classic Spaghetti & Meatballs

There’s no dish quite as comforting—or as universally loved!

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet spaghetti, cooked according to packet instructions

For the Meatballs:

  • 500g ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ tsp mixed herbs
  • Salt & pepper

For the Marinara Sauce:

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can tinned tomatoes
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp fresh or dried basil
  • Salt & pepper to taste

To serve:

  • Fresh basil
  • Parmesan cheese, grated

How To Make Classic Spaghetti & Meatballs

  1. In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients.
  2. Mix gently with your hands—don’t overwork it.
  3. Form into balls, then heat oil over medium heat.
  4. Brown the meatballs in batches, turning to brown all.
  5. Remove and set aside.
  6. In the same skillet, add chopped onion.
  7. Sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  8. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  9. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar and basil.
  10. Allow this to simmer for about 5 minutes.
  11. Gently return meatballs to the sauce.
  12. Cover and simmer on low heat for 20–30 minutes until meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
  13. Toss spaghetti with a little of the sauce, then plate with meatballs on top.
  14. Spoon extra sauce over everything.
  15. Garnish with grated Parmesan and fresh basil.
