Classic Spaghetti & Meatballs
There’s no dish quite as comforting—or as universally loved!
Ingredients:
- 1 packet spaghetti, cooked according to packet instructions
For the Meatballs:
- 500g ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ tsp mixed herbs
- Salt & pepper
For the Marinara Sauce:
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can tinned tomatoes
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp fresh or dried basil
- Salt & pepper to taste
To serve:
- Fresh basil
- Parmesan cheese, grated
How To Make Classic Spaghetti & Meatballs
- In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients.
- Mix gently with your hands—don’t overwork it.
- Form into balls, then heat oil over medium heat.
- Brown the meatballs in batches, turning to brown all.
- Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add chopped onion.
- Sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar and basil.
- Allow this to simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Gently return meatballs to the sauce.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 20–30 minutes until meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
- Toss spaghetti with a little of the sauce, then plate with meatballs on top.
- Spoon extra sauce over everything.
- Garnish with grated Parmesan and fresh basil.
