Authentic Ethiopian dishes from ‘Addis in Cape’, a beloved restaurant nestled on Loop Street in Cape Town!

Ingredients:

  • 100g red lentils
  • 30ml oil
  • 35g chopped onion
  • 12g berbere
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic 
  • salt
  • hot water
  • 5g Korerima

How To Make Misir Wot

  1. Heat the oil, add the chopped onions and garlic, and fry until brown.
  2. Adding drops of water to get the onions soft and brown.
    Add Berbere and a pinch of salt, continue cooking until the mixture is smooth and well mixed, about 5 minutes or more.
  3. Wash the lentils well and add them to the Berbere mixture cooking the lentils to a delicious thick sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 500gm Teff Flour
  • 5gm dry yeast
  • 800ml Lukewarm water

How To Make Teff Injera

  1. Mix ingredients together with a wooden spoon or your hands like making bread dough.
  2. Add the lukewarm water bit by bit leaving the dough much more relaxed than bread dough.
  3. Pour some water over it, keeping it overnight to rise.
  4. The next day remove the excess water on top and gradually add warm water to get the right texture to bake.
  5. The texture at this time should be the consistency of crêpe or pancake batter.
  6. Pouring a thin layer of batter to cover the pan, baking it on a non-stick pan without any oil or butter and without
    flipping it over.
  7. For best results use a pan dedicated to the crepe only

Ingredients:

  • 260g beef fillet
  • 20g Berbere
  • 50g onions
  • 20ml oil
  • 5g salt
  • 10g kibe

How To Make Beef Tibs in Berbere

  1. In a skillet, add the sliced onions, oil and Beef cubes, salt, berbere spice and butter and fry for 5-7 min till the meat is tender.
