DIY Taco Shells Using Tortillas

Forget store-bought—making your own taco shells at home is quick, budget-friendly, and way more delicious!

Ingredients:

  • Soft corn or flour tortillas (6-inch size works best)
  • Neutral oil (like canola or vegetable oil)
  • Tongs and a wire rack or oven-safe rack
  • Baking tray or a frying pan

How To Make Taco Shells

Method 1:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Lightly brush or spray tortillas with oil on both sides.
  3. Drape each tortilla over two bars of the oven rack to form a shell shape.
  4. Bake for 7–10 minutes until crisp and golden.
  5. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  6. Carefully remove and let cool slightly—they’ll crisp up more as they cool.

Method 2:

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Using tongs, fold a tortilla in half and place one half in the oil.
  3. Fry one side for 30–45 seconds, then flip to fry the other side—keeping the folded shape.
  4. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt if desired.
