Preparation time: 10 – 12 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (400g) tinned apples, drained
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 Tbsp lemon or lime juice
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp vanilla essence

How To Make Homemade Apple Sauce

  1. Add the drained apples to a blender or food processor with the water and blend until smooth.
  2. If you prefer a chunkier apple sauce, mash the apples with a fork or potato masher instead.
  3. Transfer the blended or mashed apples to a small saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Stir in the lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken.
  6. Remove from the heat and allow it to cool completely.

Chefs Tip: For a more intense flavour, use apple juice instead of water. Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or freeze for later use.
