Homemade Malva Pudding

Few desserts bring as much warmth and nostalgia as Malva Pudding—a soft, syrupy classic that is the heart of so many family gatherings!

Ingredients:

For the pudding:

  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp apricot jam
  • 2 tbsp Stork White Baking Margarine, melted
  • 1 tsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
  • 1 cup (250ml) milk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup (125g) cake flour
  • Pinch of salt

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup (250ml) cream
  • 1/2 cup (100g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) hot water
  • 1/4 cup (60g) Stork White Baking Margarine
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

How To Make Homemade Malva Pudding

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
  3. Add apricot jam and mix well.
  4. Stir in melted Stork White Baking Margarine, vinegar, and milk.
  5. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda.
  6. Gently fold into the wet ingredients until smooth.
  7. Pour batter into the greased baking dish and bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden and a skewer comes out clean.
  8. In a saucepan, heat cream, sugar, hot water, Stork White Baking Margarine, and vanilla essence until sugar dissolves and sauce is warm.
  9. Once the pudding is out of the oven, poke holes all over and pour the warm sauce over the hot pudding.
  10. Let it absorb for a few minutes.
  11. Serve warm with custard, ice cream, or whipped cream.
