Milk Tart Jaffles
Be adventurous and fill your jaffle with a truly South African treat!

Serves: 6-8
Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:
- For the filling;
- 1 cups milk
- 10g butter
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp cornflour
- ¼ cup sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 6-8 slices of white bread
- ½ butter, softened
- Cinnamon sugar:
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
How To Make
- In a saucepan combine half the milk, butter, vanilla essence and cinnamon.
- Bring to a gentle simmer.
- In a bowl whisk egg, add the flour, cornflour, remaining milk, sugar and salt until smooth.
- Slowly temper the hot milk into the egg mixture.
- Add the whole mixture back into the saucepan and whisk until the mixture thickens.
- Once thickened, remove from the heat and set aside
- Combine the ingredients for the cinnamon sugar in a shallow bowl and set aside.
- Heat the jaffle iron on the braai
- Spray both sides with non-stick spray
- Arrange half the bread on a flat surface, butter the outside.
- Scoop even amounts of filling on each slice.
- Cover with other butter slices, keeping the buttered sides on the outside.
- Place inside the jaffle iron, close and cut off the excess crusts.
- Cook until golden brown
- Remove from the jaffle iron and roll in the cinnamon sugar while hot.
