  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • For the za’atar butter:
  • 1/3 cup Clover Butro, soft + 2 tbsp extra, melted
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp Za’atar spice
  • ½ handful fresh parsley, chopped
  • ½ tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese

How To Make Za’atar Butter Bread

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and yeast.
  2. Mix thoroughly then create a well in the centre.
  3. In a jug, combine the water, sugar, salt and oil.
  4. Pour the warm water mixture into the flour mixture and knead for 5 minutes. You want the dough to be pliable but not too sticky.
  5. Lightly dust your work surface with flour and continue kneading the dough for another 5 minutes.
  6. Grease a clean large bowl and gently place your dough in the bowl. Add oil to the top of your dough and place a damp cloth over the top. Proof in a warm place until doubled in size.
  7. In the meantime, prepare the za’atar butter by combining all the ingredients in a bowl and mixing through.
  8. Once your dough has risen, knock it back down then roll out into a large rectangle.
  9. Spread the zaatar butter over the dough in and even layer.
  10. Roll the dough from the longest side into a log. Using a sharp knife, cut the large in half right down the middle.
  11. Prepare a loaf tin with parchment paper or baking spray.
  12. Twist the two pieces of dough around each other then gently stuff into the loaf tin.
  13. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to proof again until doubled in size.
  14. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  15. Bake the bread in the oven for 20-25 minutes.
  16. Brush with melted butter and serve.
