How To Make Za’atar Butter Bread
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and yeast.
- Mix thoroughly then create a well in the centre.
- In a jug, combine the water, sugar, salt and oil.
- Pour the warm water mixture into the flour mixture and knead for 5 minutes. You want the dough to be pliable but not too sticky.
- Lightly dust your work surface with flour and continue kneading the dough for another 5 minutes.
- Grease a clean large bowl and gently place your dough in the bowl. Add oil to the top of your dough and place a damp cloth over the top. Proof in a warm place until doubled in size.
- In the meantime, prepare the za’atar butter by combining all the ingredients in a bowl and mixing through.
- Once your dough has risen, knock it back down then roll out into a large rectangle.
- Spread the zaatar butter over the dough in and even layer.
- Roll the dough from the longest side into a log. Using a sharp knife, cut the large in half right down the middle.
- Prepare a loaf tin with parchment paper or baking spray.
- Twist the two pieces of dough around each other then gently stuff into the loaf tin.
- Cover with a damp cloth and allow to proof again until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 180C.
- Bake the bread in the oven for 20-25 minutes.
- Brush with melted butter and serve.
