Drain using a colander and return the empty pot to the stove. Add half the butter and saute the garlic on medium heat for 1 minute. Add the broccoli, season with salt and pepper and cook until tender. Remove from the heat and stir in the sour cream.Mash the potatoes then add them to the broccoli mixture with the remaining butter.Stir to combine and season to taste.
