Cheese and Chilli Hotdogs Recipe

Ditch the Friday night takeaway and whip up your own version instead, on a Wednesday! If you love having Fakeaways, we’re setting to show that you can perfect those grab and go hotdogs at home.

  • 4-5 hotdog rolls
  • 4-5 hot dog vienna’s, steamed/grilled and split open
  • 1 cup grated Clover Elite cheddar cheese
  • 2 japalenos, sliced
  • For the chilli
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 500g beef mince
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • For the cheese sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1-2 cup fresh milk
  • 1-2 cups Clover Elite Tussers or cheddar cheese, grated
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make Cheese and Chilli Hotdogs

  1. Prepare the hotdog rolls by scattering over the grated cheese and top with sliced jalapenos.
  2. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
  3. Set aside and allow to cool.
  4. Prepare the chilli by heating a glug of oil in a pan and fry the onion. Add the beef mince and break up in the pan.
  5. Add the garlic, paprika, cumin and stir in the tomato puree.
  6. Season with salt and pepper and allow to simmer
  7. Make the cheese sauce by melting butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour.
  8. Use a whisk to mix and gradually add in the milk.
  9. Stir in the cheese until melted and season with salt and pepper.
  10. Assemble the hotdogs slicing the cheesy hot dog rolls in half.
  11. Add the split Vienna’s and top with the cooked chilli.
  12. Pour over the cheese sauce and garnish with more grated cheese and slices jalapenos.

Chefs Tip: You can also do this with boerewors rolls.
